Reasons To Binge Watch

11111

Don’t mean to sound like a hipster but yeah I’m totally gonna sound like one right now… because I wanna say that I’ve been binge watching shows since before it was considered cool. Heck I’ve been at it since before that was even a term. Starting a ways back when it was first becoming possible to stream dramas with fansubs. You know before there was any type of legal licensing available. Meaning no Viki, no Dramafever, and yup that’s right no Netflix either. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ But before you go on thinking I’m old or something let me stop you. The truth is I just naturally started binge watching shows from a young age. A really young age. So unless you consider somebody who at the moment is not even into their mid-twenties but is closing in, old,…then I’m not ๐Ÿ˜› Although if you do consider that old then dang, that’s gonna hurt my feelings. ๐Ÿ˜ญ At that point maybe I may just rather have you focus on calling me a hipster after all. Haha

But don’t worry I’m not actually one because if I were, I would be bringing this all up so that I could pat myself on the back and show how ahead of the curve I’ve been. Which I’m totally not doing right now. Nope not in the slightest…Ok I AM doing THAT but for a good reason. ๐Ÿ˜› But what reason could it be? Hmm..I guess it’s so that hopefully all that “experience,” if you can call it that, can give a little more weight to the reasons I’m about to give on here. I would love for it to help by giving y’all some context to go on, while at the same time show that I do know a thing or two about what I’m talking about. Speaking of which, I should really get started.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are my reasons why I think people should at least consider binge watching:

  • Avoid the Wait Times…Sort Of

42423423.jpg

This one is first for obvious reasons. If you are gonna be binge watching then clearly you are not gonna be waiting week to week anymore. Which means not having to wait like what, 7 days for the next episode. Something that at first glance has seemed inconsequential to many people out there, that is until of course they hit that particular cliffhanger that they can’t wait to get resolved. A little tid bit that has time and time again led to so much anxiety building that people around the world have found themselves at one point or another completely snapping. Resulting in them pulling all their hair out until they end up looking exactly like Saitama from One Punch Man. lol

That is why instead you should wait LONGER until a show has finished it’s run. Wait huh!? O_o Yeah I know it seems counter intuitive but trust me it’s better this way. You see waiting for a show to end first is easier than you might think. That’s because if you haven’t actually started it, then you haven’t gotten invested in it yet. You see it’s only once you have checked out an episode or two that it becomes near impossible and you get stuck in the week to week thing. However if you hold out, sure you will have to watch much later, but it will be at your own pace and to your hearts content. To me that super out weighs the traditional viewing model.

  • Keep Things Fresh on Your Mind

Then to further build on that you have this reason. That is that by going from one episode straight into another, you will find yourself better keeping track of things. I can’t tell you how many times I use to forget stuff waiting week to week. To the point where I would have to re-watch the previous episode. Something I feel you should never have to do. It gets even worse though when you have shows that take an extra break like during a holiday or for unknown reasons were only God knows why. I’m looking to you Flash. *coughs*I swear that show suffers so much from that.

  • No Commercials

Bringing us now to this BIG reason. NO COMMERCIALS!!! Of course this one depends on what service you use though. But if you get the episodes through things like On Demand, through Netflix, or you go out and buy the Blu-Rays, you wont have to deal with commercials. And if the service you do use has some commercials it probs won’t have anywhere near as much as it did during first broadcast.

Now don’t get me wrong because I understand that adds pay the bills. Even if they do sometimes make like 20-25 mins out of the supposed runtime. It’s just that sometimes a show will start to get it’s groove only for it to get undermined by a badly placed commercial spot. That really irks me. Like come on guys you are messing with the flow of your own show here….

  • Better Schedule Your Queue

And lastly to close this post out, we have this. An opportunity to better schedule your queue. What can I possibly mean by this? Well, it’s actually not all that complicated. It means that you can better manage what you are watching. Because let’s say you started watching a show that aired on Fridays. You would then have to wait until next Friday right, meaning you would have all these other days open. So what are you likely to do?Pick up more shows to watch of course. Which means more plot points/story to keep track off.

Now if you are somebody who binge watches you can instead set a couple days for one show. That way you can give it 100% of your undivided attention. Then when you are finished with it you can then in turn pick another one to do the same. Meaning you will never get confused between what you are watching. ๐Ÿ˜€ Easy Peasy right. ๐Ÿ™‚

So what did y’all think of this post? Hopefully it’s one both drama fans and non- drama fans can relate to or at least find mildly interesting. ๐Ÿ˜€ ‘Till next Time.

  1. Bingewatching is so much fun. Even though I don’t always have the time for it, when a show is really good, I really can’t stop watching it either. With so many shows on offer these days, I watch way too many things at the same time. So I can definitely relate to your second reason for bingewatching: keeping things fresh on your mind ๐Ÿ˜Š (But then again I might just be getting old, and not remembering things all too clearly as I used to do lol ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚). Great post, enjoyed reading this one ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Yep, I’m a binge watcher too. Sometimes I will marathon a bunch of eps, but even during regular days I pretty much stick to one show at time when it comes to kdramas. I hate having to wait week to week so I too just wait to even start it. Then I feel like I get more invested in the show and it is easier to keep track of everything. Since I like to keep up with the new dramas, I usually just start a drama about a week before it ends. And for the most part, I’m able to keep fairly up to date and still watch lots of dramas. Binge watching is the best ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Cool, Sounds like we have similar watching habbits. ๐Ÿ™‚ Except for the starting a drama the week before it ends. I gotta wait ’till after cuz I wanna make sure the last ep doesn’t turn out to be the dissaster that kills the drama. ๐Ÿ˜›

  3. This is so relatable as I’ve gotten to a point where I never watch ANY show while it’s airing, until a good five episodes come out lol. โ€œShow Me the Moneyโ€ is the exception right now since it’s taking them a bajillion years to upload episode 2 online. ๐Ÿ˜“๐Ÿ™„
