You’re a…K-drama fan?

Ok for today’s post I thought I would share a nice, short, and simple story of something that happened awhilez back. It was around when I was in 9th or maybe 10th grade. I was in some kind of science class at the time, I’m thinking it was Biology but I can’t really remember exactly. What I do remember was that on that day we got into groups to do a project. Which for us was always amazing because it meant we could talk amongst each other without getting into trouble. And if you have ever worked in group projects before(which is highly likely), then you would know that often times you end up mostly talking about everything other than what you are supposed to. πŸ˜›

For example, me and my friends back then would always go on about whatever games we were playing at the moment. As I was doing on this particular day too with the guy sitting next to me. But something happened to take my focus away this time. It happened to be something I overheard from the girl to my right. Someone had been trying to make plans with her to go someplace when out of the blue she said she couldn’t because she was planning on watching more Coffee Prince episodes. I remember thinking “what the heck” and turning my attention to her with my eyes wide open! O_O(looking something like this)

Clearly she was taken aback by my response as well. She must have been like, “why is this dude staring at me like that all of a sudden.” haha Luckily I got a chance to explain myself. Telling her that I was pretty much shook because of the Coffee Prince name drop. At that moment her face went from O_o to πŸ˜€ . That is when she asked me if I was a K-drama fan. I was like yeah and no joke she proceeded to start listing of every drama she must have seen, to see if I had seen/heard of them too. It was a really fun moment.

As it turns out it was the first time both of us had ran into another person who was into Asian Dramas. Our friends were aware of them for sure BECAUSE of us but instead they were into things like manga and anime. Which I guess is kinda close since some of them get turned into J-dramas. However it isn’t quite the same. But what was truly crazy in all of this is that by that point we had been classmates for awhile and yet we hadn’t figured it out that we shared this thing in common. Instead it was by random chance. It’s enough to make you wonder if there could be someone around you right now who shares a similar interest you don’t know about.

What’s cool is that from that point on we were on friendly terms. So now I open it up to you guys. Have you ever had a similar experience? If you have had one don’t be shy and please share it. ^_^

  1. That happened to me with a senior in my school. Before my volleyball ball match she came up to me and said, “Fighting!”.
It took me a couple of seconds to process why it sounded so familiar, and then I found out she was into K drama and K pop.
    It was surprising.

Also that gif from You’re Beautiful ><
I loved Jang Keun suk in that, OCD hit a little too close to heart. His character was almost like me in that drama. (minus the cutsie.)

  2. I worked in NZ for a year. I lived in a shared apartment with mostly people moving in to go to an English language school. One month, a very cute Chilean woman moved in. Her English was quite broken (hence why she went to a language school), so we couldn’t really communicate besides the basics.
Then one time, when I went into the kitchen to prepare dinner, she was sitting there, watching something on her laptop. I glanced at her laptop screen as I walked past. Stopped. Walked backwards. Looked again. And indeed.
There was Gong Yoo’s beautiful face. I looked at her. She looked quite surprised at me. And I said while pointing at the screen: “I love him.” She squealed in return and we did Huggies and became friends because of Gong Yoo, “Coffee Prince” and K-drama in general.

    • Wow that’s really great! πŸ™‚ I had something kinda similar happen when on the way out from my university’s library. There was a girl clearly watching kpop music videos with headphones on. I smiled and gave a thumbs up and she did it back. Haha

  3. Well, I wish I could say that I did, but no one in my group of friends watches Korean drama series. Which is a real shame. That said though, ever since I started blogging I have come across a lot of wonderful people, including those that enjoy Korean drama series as well (like the wonderful Kay from Kdrama kisses). Since than I have had some wonderful discussions and some great recommendations about Korean dramas. So honestly I guess that you can say that blogging only improved and expanded my love for these dramas 😊

  4. What a fun experience! Aside from my family, I have never met another person in real life that is into kpop or kdramas. I recently got a BTS shirt that I have been wearing around. Maybe someday another fan will see it and will be able to identify me. I’ll be waiting, lol πŸ™‚

    • Welp there are 3 likely outcomes of wearing something that. And it depends on if it actually says BTS or it says ARMY.

They are: 1. People will think your a behind the scenes person 2. A strong supporter of the military or 3. An actual BTS fan πŸ˜› Im curious to know which of these kind of comments you get most. lol or maybe you’re already thinking far ahead and it has the pictures of the members….hmm haha

  5. I’m actually an example of what happens if you tell your friends about K-Dramas. When me and my now BFF started talking, she mentioned she liked K-dramas. I did not understand how she could enjoy watching a show where you use subtitles. I wanted to try to see, and asked for a list of some she liked. A few months later, I finally decided to try one. That was the day my eyes were opened to what I had been missing.

Never met anyone else who watches them, but if I ever fo I’d probably act just like you did, though.

    • I LOVE coffee Prince!!!!!!!!! I can totally understand your reaction I would have done the same if I was in your place. Tbh I got excited just by reading your article! My first k-drama was boys over flower but I still haven’t completed it due to some reasons but I just love it. My roomie introduced me to the world of Korean shows and I am greatful to her for that. I just love love love Jan Di and Ji hoo. And in coffee prince I used to prefer Choi han sung over Choi han kyol but when I watched the episode when they sleep while talking on the phone and the way han kyol sings a song for her I totally fell for him. 😍😍😍😍😍 I would love to discuss more about it! Do tell me which show is your fav.

    • Yup I love Coffee Prince too. It was one of my first Kdramas. Before that I mostly watched Jdramas and sometimes Taiwanese dramas. I don’t know if I could pick a favorite though. But what I can say is that recently I was watching one called Tunnel and it was fantastic. πŸ™‚

  7. Haha did you tell her you have a blog where you write about K-dramas?? I would love to see her face for that. πŸ™‚ I watched a little of Coffee Prince several years ago. It was good but didn’t get into it. I still remember the first episode very well when she ate all that food. Haha.

  8. It’s always a lot of fun when you learn that someone is ALSO into something that’s kind of a specific niche, and somehow it always comes up as a shock. I wish I knew more people into Kdramas/Jdrama because sometimes you watch a few episodes and get an urge to talk about it real bad to someone, but then it ends up being just as boring for people that aren’t into it as telling someone about a book they haven’t read.
