Woah! Looks like BTS is set for a September comeback. 😮 This had just been a rumor floating about for awhile but apparently it’s now turned out to be a fact. As it was confirmed by their label, Big Hit Entertainment, about a week ago. Can’t really think of a better way to start this post than with that. Obviously it’s got me super excited since I think they’re the best Kpop group out there at the moment. I know I say that a lot but I don’t ever seem to get tired of saying it. haha And with all the buzz they have been getting lately, it makes a ton of sense for them to wanna build of that momentum.
Like not too long ago I read somewhere that they hit a million new twitter followers the last month alone. That’s insane sounding to me. 😮 Needless to say they’ve also had all those countless articles that have been written about them…you know from big time reputable publications like TIME Magazine and even more recently The Rolling Stone. Reaching milestones like that it’s no surprise that they wanna be doing something sooner rather than later. And while we may not know if they’re gonna release a full on album or a mini one yet, what we do know is that it will probs be dope because they’ve had a pretty good track record thus far. Am I right fellow ARMYs? 🙂 Making this comeback immediately shoot up to the top of my most anticipated list. 😀
Furthermore there were some other comebacks to get official release dates recently:
To start us of with these we got Raina who’s an artist that is NOT gonna be making us wait much longer. In fact, luckily for us she will be releasing her first single album and MV later today. Yup you heard that right TODAY. :3 This one is interesting because it’s not the type of music I usually gravitate towards but after stumbling onto her MV teaser, I was quickly won over. That thing was just so gosh darn… what’s the word, pleasant, yes that’s the perfect word. I felt so calm after hearing only a little piece of it. Can’t begin to imagine what I’ll be like after hearing the whole thing. What was cool was that after doing some digging I learned or should I better say realized that she was the main vocalist from the girl group After School. I felt sooo dumb for not recognizing her sooner. But then it made sense why I was won over like I was. I use to really like some of their songs and plus Raina is for many people considered one of the best idol singers out there.
Another thing of note here is that Aron from NU’EST is gonna be featured. A member from a group that has recently started getting back onto the public consciousness after some of it’s members ended up being on the new season of Produce 101. It’s another group that I used to follow and anytime I can see their members being active in something it’s good. 🙂
CLC: August 3rd
Moving right along we now get to CLC. I’ve talked about them on here a couple of times. Mostly gushing about how their new bad girl personas fit them so good and how their new concept was totally badass. Unfortunately from the teasers I’ve been seeing recently they seem to be reverting back to their earlier cutesy looks. I hope that’s not the case because I wasn’t really feeling their previous stuff. But I would be ok it they could at least take turns reverting back and forth between cutesy to badass. Either way, because of their last outing they have earned the benefit of the doubt with me.
They will be making a return on Aug 3rd. With their 6th Mini Album, FREE SM
Boyfriend: August 9th
Then to close out the announced comebacks we have Boyfriend. I recently talked about how they would be having their summer Japanese comeback. Well now I’m here to announce that they are having their domestic comeback too. A long awaited one apparently because it has been 2 years and 5 months since their last one. That’s a crazy amount of wait time. But as someone one who only recently discovered them it seems I jumped on the bandwagon at the prefect time. This is gonna be the first official comeback I experience with them so I look forward in seeing what they put out. This will be their 5th Mini Album and it’s called Never End. You can expect it on August 9th.
Getting us now over to the news. Which there are only two things that actually caught my attention recently. One was pretty big and the other one was more on the fun side. And I think I’ll start with the funner one.
Lee Hyori is a Bad Girl and a Good Girl lol
Something that I noticed making the rounds online recently was a Lee Hyori video. A clip that was taken from JYP’s “Party People“. I’ll be honest that I had never heard, let alone watched this show before. So I don’t have any idea what the concept of it is all about. What I do know however is that one of the Queens of Kpop, Lee Hyori, got on there and did her cover of Miss A’s Bad Girl,Good Girl. And anytime I see an artist cover another artist it’s always cool for me. Specially when they make it their own like she did here.
It was really fun and it seemed like even JYP was really enjoying himself. The dude had the biggest grin on his face throughout. Guess it was good of them to release this clip online because it has gotten me curious to go and learn more about this show. It was also nice to see that Lee Hyori still has all her confidence as she has gotten older. Plus as you can see her camera presence is still there too. You should strongly consider checking out her recent comeback if you haven’t yet. I would personally recommend you start with the song Black.
Which then takes us over to that big story I mentioned earlier…
Produce 101… the YG version
Ok is this real life? I gotta ask because I swear I just mentioned not too long ago that YG picks the best artists. So to find out that they will take on the Produce 101 concept is beyond amazing, I would say it’s plain freaking awesome really! And if you are unfamiliar with that concept let me fill you in. Pretty much it’s a reality tv show where the audience can create their own Kpop group by voting. Choosing everything from who the members will be, down to the name and even the direction of their concept. Very interactive as you can see.
Anyhow they do seem to wanna take a fresh new spin with this though. While Produce 101 has focused on fresh rookies, it looks like this new show will instead focus on those who had already debuted. Making it more about giving them a second chance. To me that sounds pretty cool and interesting. Also makes me curious as to whether I may see some familiar faces on there. The bottom line being, you can totally bet on me watching this show as soon as it hits online.
Which wraps up the news. Now onto the new releases.
Like always here are all the new songs that caught my attention since the last “Kpop This WeekEND” post:
First up we got K.A.R.D.’s debut that’s not really a debut but technically is. With their new song Hola Hola. Some people I noticed were complaining that it sounded too similar to their other works but to me it was just them being consistent to their sound. I personally really dug the vocals and thought that beat was strong but without having it be so overpowering. Everything worked and mixed well I thought. From what I’ve come across, for a rookie group they have been doing good but their sales could be a tad better. It looks like their international success hasn’t quite equated to a break out Korean success. Again they’re not doing bad though.
Then secondly you had KNK’s new song which was just smooth all the way throughout. The guys looked classy in those suits and that dancing in the rain is really cool don’t you think? Makes me look forward to a dance practice or to some live performances. Although I have to say that any time I see any dancing in the rain I always end up thinking back to the movie Step Up 2. 😛 lol
But moving on we get to some Monsta X action going on. Normally what I like about them is their intensity. As I have mentioned many times on some of my other posts. However I have also said that they have range and can get calmer and have a more chill but still upbeat sound. Which is what you get in this song. It’s more on the fun side and it’s one I think I’ll find myself recommending a lot in the future. 😀
Next we got a group that I somehow ended up overlooking the last time I was mentioning upcoming comebacks. It’s something I’m sad about because I have actually been really liking this group after discovering their song Chase Me. The production was breathtaking and it had so much energy! It was at parts almost borderline J-rock sounding too. Like one of those openings to an anime. And with this new song Fly High I got more of that although it was a little more subdued in comparison. Still it’s quality stuff and you should give it a listen.
and lastly….we got CHANGMO tearing it up. Like at this point you all know I like Korean hip-hop and at the moment I don’t think it can get better than CHANGMO. This guys flow to me is on a Godly level. He makes it seem so effortless. O_O Also the guy featured in this, Hash Swan, has talent too. I mean his part got me by surprise because the dude has got an unusual voice. Between the both of ’em, I’m left here going “how has this not gotten more attention.” How!? 🤔
