Ok this is one of those moments where I had to do a double take when I first watched the video. I was like wait a minute there is no way this is actually happening right? But hey as it turns out that is very much the case. CBS, as in one of the big American television networks, has in fact used EXO‘s latest song Power for a new promo featuring their college football coverage. And surprisingly enough the song actually fits in pretty dang good. Who woulda ever thunk it, American Football and EXO blend in really well together.
Here check it out for yourselves:
This is great news if you’re an international K-pop fan because it goes to show the ever growing popularity of the genre. At least right here within the US. Not only can you now begin to see K-pop MVs trend on YouTube, or have some PSY/BTS songs get some radio play here, or even have famous publications like Time Magazine featuring various K-pop artists in their articles, nope now you can also apparently see it make its way over to daytime TV too! And having it incorporated with this sport shouldn’t be understated since it’s such a big deal over here in America. I don’t know if they will end up using the song again but hopefully they do. Because the football audience is huuuge and it would be nice to get at least a couple of them to jump over onto the K-pop bandwagon. haha 🙂
But this isn’t actually the first time I’ve seen EXO pop up on American TV. 😮 Truth be told there was another moment that happened semi-recently. It was not too long after their release of Ko Ko Bop. Remember the viral dance craze that came out of that. Well it was covered by reporter/TV personality Kinsey. On her segment called Kinsey’s corner. It was broadcast over on Good Day Sacramento and luckily for you it is easily available on YouTube. It was a great fun little piece albeit she didn’t quite get the name of the group right. However I’m sure we can excuse her on that since shes probs new to this right? 😛 Plus she managed to win me over by going ahead and gathering some of her co-workers to give the dance a try themselves. 😀
and here is that video:
It will be exciting to see if this trend of seeing K-pop expand worldwide continues. But that get’s us to the big question. What do you all think about this? Has it got you excited at all or are you like meh on this latest development? Share your thoughts down below. ^___^ As far as my thoughts go I think it’s always fun to see Kpop pop up in unexpected places.
