It’s been a sad couple of days for K-pop fans around the world recently but you probably don’t need me to tell you that. Because I’m pretty sure everyone who follows Kpop at all has heard the troubling news by now. That one of the most popular Girl Groups of all time, Girl’s Generation, has been shooken up once again. Remember back to when Jessica left the group in 2014?..Well now you can add 3 other members to that same list as they’ve decided not to re-sign with SM Entertainment. The 3 members I’m talkin’ about today are Seohyun, Sooyoung, and Tiffany. It broke my heart to hear this news as this group has a soft and special place reserved in my heart. Since their song Gee was the first ever to introduce me into the K-pop fandom. This was back when I was a young teenager at the start of my High School days.
Years have already passed and I’ve grown up but you know what, they have too. Not only have they gotten older but their music and style has matured along the way as well. It has been one heck of a journey to watch but now because of this latest development a lot of fans are left thinking, “where do we go from here?” They are legitimately curious because now being down four members total, it’s like should SM call it quits OR should promotions continue with the remaining members? Personally I would continue to support what remains of the group(as well as those who recently departed of course, like duh 😛 ) but I would understand whichever direction the label decides to go on. For the moment though SM has gone on record saying that it DOES have plans to continue with the group. That’s some good news but ultimately I think we should take a “let’s wait and see approach” in case those plans fall through.
In the meantime I only hope that people don’t turn against the members who left because I’m sure they thought long and hard about their decisions. In the end these are their careers and I think we should respect that. Whether they end up going into modeling, fashion, and/or acting or not. And hey while I gotz your attention can you peeps do me a solid and try not to throw any flack at their label while you’re at it either. I know the label does have a history of having done some shady things in the past in regards with dealing with their artists, but remember when it comes to this situation it’s still early and we don’t really have anywhere near the full picture. At the moment it’s very much mainly speculation going around at least from the tid bits I’ve seen. So instead of putting out any negative thoughts or focusing on any negative aspects in general, how about we focus on the positives.
Let’s instead use this as an opportunity to share some of the wonderful memories we have had thanks to this awesome group of girls. 🙂 Remember it’s not like they’re breaking up prematurely. Girl’s Generation has been around for a whopping 10 years already! 😮 That’s no joke, they are true veterans of the K-pop world. One of the last remaining from their generation. And in all that time they’ve had their shares of ups and downs but come on we know there were waaay more ups right? 😀
For example they were the first Kpop group ever to have 3 MVs cross over the 150,000,000 view mark plus thanks to them we got many fun moments. From memorable Variety Show appearances, to dope albums dropping like their first ever Girl’s Generation album to more recently their Holiday Night album, to many award show wins that we got to be apart of, and the list of achievements only continues to go on from there. But probably the biggest praise we can give them in all this is that there is no doubt that they played a big part in what is now labeled as the “Korean Wave.”
It wasn’t only me and a few others they introduced into K-pop, not by any means. No it was again a whole freaking Generation of K-pop fans that were spawned by them. I can’t even begin to tell you how many K-pop fans I know who are in their 20s specially who attribute themselves getting into the genre solely thanks to them. I’m sure if you are taking the time to read this then the same can probs be said about you too. lol So come on tell me some of your fave things about this group in the comments below. Let’s take what could be a negative milestone and turn it into a celebration of a historied career.
***For me here are some of the fun moments Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Seohyun have shared with us. 🙂
Oh how many adorkable moments we have gotten between her and her good pal Taeyeon. The two have been such a dynamic comedic duo. It’s gonna be sad not to see their quirky relationship on screen anymore. However at least we have moments like this that we can go back to when we are feeling down. It will never feel old seeing Tiffany speak English meanwhile Taeyeon…. tries her best to keep up. haha But seeing as they seem so close I think the two will definitely keep in touch. ^^
And for Sooyoung I wanna share this clip because it killed me when I first saw it. It starts of as a Tiffany centered clip but Sooyoung totally wins it all at the end. 🙂 She is simply too cute in practicing her English skillz. Her whole charming persona is the reason she became my bias of the group as time passed on. Seriously guys she is mad funny, much more than you would expect if you judged by appearances alone.
Which gets us to Seohyun and I don’t think there is a better clip than this one out there for me to share. lol Just like Tiffany showed up in my clip for Sooyoung now Sooyoung shows up in this clip I have for Seohyun. And the two of them are pretty fire in it. In this the two of them get really intense for the sake of a prank. Not only do they act out brilliantly in it, I found the whole scenario funny. The real question though is, Is Seohyun strong or is Sooyoung weak? Because dang Sooyoung got pushed around so easily in the clip. 😛 Thanks to it I wanna see them in a legit drama playing rivals at some point…
P.S. For my fave MV from this group I would have to pick Run Devil Run. While Gee was an interesting introduction you peeps know I prefer the mature side of Kpop a little more. So when they released this song I was like yeah this is super dope. It was the first one I think that showed they could move away from the more innocent concepts they had had previously and showing they could slay it regardless. Plus it’s got one of those choreos that sticks to your mind because it goes very well with the lyrics.
Also fun fact originally Ke$ha sang this song in English as a demo but ultimately didn’t end up using it in any official capacity or anything. Instead SM bought the recording rights and gave it to Girl’s Generation which turned out to be a pretty solid decision. You can still find Ke$has version online if you look but you may wanna steer clear from the comments. Basically the comments section for it has devolved into a bunch of people arguing back and forth over which version is superior.
…and there you have it. Hopefully you give this group a chance if you haven’t already. They have a pretty diverse discography so I’m sure you will be able to find something to your liking.
