Sorry peeps for bringing up the MMA(Melon Music Awards) again. I’m sure by now most of you have more than likely moved your attentions elsewhere towards other awards shows instead. But I gotta briefly bring them up once again because it was only last night that I got the chance to watch most of the performances. Previously I had only caught BTS‘s and Hyuna‘s. 😅 Other wise I woulda brought up the performance I’m about to bring up much sooner.
That’s cuz after watching the rest I gotta say that the surprise of the night for me at least has got to go to the collab stage between Hong Jin Young x Young Chul. Seriously I didn’t even know they were gonna be on there performing because I don’t really check the line up for these things prior. But man talk about surprises of all surprises. When it came to making the show feel like a night club, not many came close to these two in my eyes. They legit rocked it more than I thought they were capable of. Would I call it performance of the night? Probs not because on a technical level I would still put both BTS and EXO at the top but terms of “Turnt Up-ness” if that’s a thing, for whateves reasons this did get me that extra bit hype like nothing else did! 😆
More than likely it is mainly down to the surprise factor but before we get to the whys. For those who only caught the clips of their faves online and didn’t watch the whole thing, thus have no idea what I be talking about. Let me tell you that Hong Jin Young and Young Chul together performed the weird and quirky track Ring Ring together. The best way I can describe the track is like a fusion of Trot(oldest form of Korean pop music) and Electronic Music…yeah it’s a weird combo but it works!!
And if you wanna check it out, you can do so right here:
I’ll be honest, it won’t surprise me if you hadn’t heard of it before. Like it’s not really a song that broke records or went crazy viral on YouTube. However, it is a fun song that Young( a trot singer) produced for Young Chul (a comedian) to perform. Although an interesting fact, originally it was meant for another comedian named Gyung Hwan I believe, who ended up turning it down. With Young Chul only getting on her radar for the song after asking around and getting opinions from other popular MCs. Though their is also an MV version with her take on the song out there too.
Anyways, I guess that’s not too important though. The real point here is I like weird songs like this and the fact the stage performance was as turnt up as it was made me have the biggest grin on my face. I mean like I previously said, it sounded like a club up in there. Which is extra amusing to me because if you listen to Jin Young‘s regular stuff it is so calm, soothing, and graceful. However it seems this song really showcases that different side to her. And also while Young Chul’s comedy isn’t typically my style. He really gives this song energy and it suits his personality quite well so even I gotta give him his props. All those faces he makes match well with the tone. 😀
In the end I’m not sure what you guys and gals will think about it but hopefully you like the vibe and find it at least half as catchy as I do. 🙂
P.S. (Yes I know I make a lot of “P.S.” comments to my posts. 😛 )
Since I really enjoy Jin Young‘s music I gotta recommend the song that introduced me to her and I suppose to Trot music in general. It’s called Cheer up. I think it’s great because it rides a fine line between sadness and happiness. Like it’s totally a positive song in the end but it has a tint of sadness throughout that makes it really interesting. From what I’ve read it was inspired by her days when she was originally trying to become an idol.
Well there you have it. Now I’m fully expecting a lot of you to think I’m nuts for not picking something that was more popular for “the most Turnt Up” performance 😆😅😊As always don’t be shy and share your thoughts with me. I’m sure you have your own opinions about what performance was the most Turnt Up. Never worry about disagreeing. 🙂
