This may sound a bit unorthodox, ok more like completely out of nowhere and left field, but do you peeps think Hyuna would make an awesome 6th member to EXID? Yeah I know I’m no dummy 😭, there is NO way that would ever happen but what if we say maybe a collab instead? That’s more realistic sounding eh? I’m curious if any of you would be hype for that. Odds are you probably haven’t even considered it before but don’t worry I hadn’t put any thought into it either. The only reason it’s on my mind all of a sudden is because I surprisingly heard a pretty good mashup of the two recently. And by recently I mean just the other day.
Like remember how in my last post I talked about Blackpink‘s So Hot stage at SBS’s Gayo Daejeon? Well in that same post apart from embedding a video clip of the performance itself I also linked to one of those fan made color coded lyric videos. Hopefully you got a chance to watch ’em both. Now you’re probably wondering what’s the point for bringing that up again. Ok so here’s the thing, while watching the color coded version on my phone I noticed other recommendations from the same channel. So I went ahead and clicked on the channel itself.
When I did, I noticed a couple things on there that immediately made me wanna stick around. For example, I first noticed this little “what if” video showing how the line distribution would go if BTS sang Stray Kids’ Hellavator instead. I’ll say I got a good kick out of that one. Then while I was there I also checked out the Lyrics to B.A.P.s Hands Up. They were inspiring, supportive, and meaningful as you would expect from them. And so they put me in a really good mood. 😇 Then just when I was about to click away is when I saw the mashup on the channel. Honestly I had already passed it once and was gonna skip it again even if it did feature artists I love. Cuz those things aren’t usually my thing anyways. However maybe because B.A.P. put me into such a good mood I decided what the heck and gave it a try.
BOY AM I GLAD I DID THO because it turned out to be a heck of an awesome BOP. It mashed together Hyuna‘s Lip and Hip, which if y’all didn’t know I’ve been mad obsessing over since its debut on MMA(Melon Music Awards) and EXID’s DDD. Two different types of sensual songs that I’ve enjoyed but didn’t ever consider putting together in any shape or form whatsoever, thus could be a reason why the idea of this mashup didn’t excite me at first glance? Yeah that could be part of it.Whatever the case was tho is irrelevant because after seeing this and how well it worked all I can say now is yes!! BRAVO to the amazing person who put this whole thing together. Bravo indeed. It brought new life and energy to these songs that at this point I must have heard each at least 1,000 times already. Which as you can imagine can seriously tire someone out. lol But back on a serious note.
The person who worked on this in my opinion was able to somehow work music magic because they managed to pick all of the best, dare I even say, perfect times to transition between EXID and Hyuna. A special highlight for me that emphasizes this and let’s you know this is gonna be good straight away happens early on. When it effortlessly and oh my gosh am I serious when I say effortlessly goes from LE to Hyuna. I didn’t expect their raps to compliment each other as well as they did. I was legit taken aback and my jaw literally dropped to the floor. In fact all their vocals felt complementary but I think what makes it work the most is how well the beats themselves sync up. They’re never fighting against each other and it makes the lead up to that double beatdrop/breakdown all the more spectacular. It’s my favorite part of the mix. 🙂
It’s so good that if you were a non fan and you clicked on this, I’m sure you would be convinced they really where a group together and that this was really their song.
Now another important detail after looking into things is that this wasn’t the original mash up. Instead it was just a color coded lyric video to the MASHED MV. The original mashup was done by 김동우. So check them out too for sure and support their creativity. I’ve taken a quick peek at their channel and they’ve done many more of these! A good one I would recommend is their Peek-A-Boo X Blood Sweat & Tears one. I had reservations going into it because I was perplexed by the choice of filter used and I just didn’t know in general how the two sounds would mix. But low and behold I was surprised at how much I liked it by the end too…..Although maybe because I’m bias towards Hyuna I still think this is the best one on their channel so far. 😉
And also let me a take a sec to say how simply mind-blowing this kinda stuff is, because getting tracks to match up is one thing but to then edit the video parts too and make them seem natural is even trickier. Like the way this came out it seems like everyone gets a fair share of screen time, it’s got a good pace to it, and it doesn’t feel like scenes where edited around to “fit.” How this person has seemingly done this time and time again is beyond me. 😮 The only small criticism I have in all this is that I do wish they could’ve used that “umhumhumhum” part or how ever you pronounce it from DDD a little more sparingly. Other than that everything is good for me. 👍
So yah after you’re done checking them out please do tell me what you think. And of course if you have any favorite mashups let me know. I’m in the mood for them and would like to find more good ones to add to my playlist. 🙂
After I wrote this I typed in Hyuna and EXID to see if they had ever legit worked on anything together in RL. Much to my surprise I got a result! Hyuna has a track with LE already called Black list. O_O How did I miss this fact? IDK. All I can tell you is I just watched a live performance they did of it on the music show M Champion back in 2014, and as expected it was total sweeg~ Their raps styles really do fit together and I hope they get a chance to work again in the future.
BTW can I mention how much I love Hyuna‘s Swagy looks. 😆
