SuperStar BTS Review

Finally I’ve achieved my week-long goal. Took some trial and error but hallelujah I made it through. 👍 I’ve successfully managed to beat a song on hard mode! Correction, not only one but surprisingly TWO whole songs(Spring Day & Save Me). Feeling mighty proud of this latest feat considering the steep learning curve this game has become notorious for. But don’t let me oversell my achievement because I barely got one star out of three on each of ’em mind you(lol). 😅 So no unfortunately I’ve not become some glorious badass to look up to when it comes to this game, far from it, but I’ll gladly take whateverz I can get. Seeing as I overworked my thumbs to the point they feel like falling off, I’m just glad to have made any progress at all.

Now with this latest development under my belt it means one thing. Yup you can bet I can finally get on with my review. Yippie! I did say I had just been waiting to get to hard mode first. But before we get to my thoughts how abouts a quick recap on what this game, SuperStar BTS, is all about:

Don’t worry it’s a simple enough game to explain away. All you really need to know are three basic things. 1. It’s a phone game 2. It’s a music rhythm game(think buttons scrolling down your screen that you have to press at the right time as BTS‘s music blasts in the background) and 3. It’s free to play. Sure there are some in app purchases available too but let me tell you, my broke ass hasn’t paid for anything yet and I’m still having a blast 15+ hours in. 😛 Of course that might be dependent on your own type of play style. So let me give you a couple of BIG tips that way the flow of the game DOESN’T get interrupted with needless spending.

They may sound self explanatory but trust me not enough people are doing this. First I recommend you throw away any shame and start on EASY mode. Make sure to get to the point where you can get three stars on most(preferably all) songs before even considering to move ahead to normal. Then when you do, do the same for normal songs before you even think of jumping into hard. This has got kind off a steep learning curve like I said. However, going through all the songs in order does help A LOT and not only that I’d say it’s designed to be played that way. 😊 Jumping around albums and difficulties on the other hand will be a sure fire way to make you go MAD I tell you. 😭 Oh and please don’t tap on the screen too hard, you’ll tire yourself out fast and it’ll be harder to do the sliding movements because of all the extra friction.

If you can follow those simple tips I promise you’ll level up at a nice steady pace, get a good amount of in-game swag, and not need to waste the amount of tries you get for songs too fast. Meaning you’ll have enough in game currency and be earning enough goodies to where you will/can get everything you’ll need to continue. Well for the most part unless you’re a collectible fiend that is. In which case RIP my friend because this game also offers card packs which could take you down a whole other rabbit hole. They are very simple in design, in that they are just head shots of the individual members. That being said I myself do find they are fun to collect because they showcase various versions from throughout the many incarnations of their careers. And that could offer some nice nostalgia trips for you.

For example, currently MY favorite set is from their No More Dream era because not to sound mean because I am a fan of said era, but it was without a doubt their most try hard period in my eyes. 😆 Have you seen how hard they tried to look back then with all their extremely and I do me EXTREMELY over the top swagged out outfits. 😛 I always thought it was a bit much but that was when I first discovered them so that look holds a special place in my heart. I always get a good kick out of seeing those old school pics. Also I really like the one’s from their N.O. era too. Suga with the headband styled white bandanna comes to mind.

The other thing with these cards is that aside from being collectibles they do give bonuses and help you in scoring more points so they aren’t a pointless addition. Although that is a slight criticism because if you don’t feel like earning cards you could easily go buy a bunch of packs instead. Therefore increasing your chances drastically of getting better cards that in turn helps you score higher. Then again I find most people I’ve run into so far don’t really care much about the points system to begin with and they find it much cooler to get perfect 3 stars on a song instead. It’s something to knock them for slightly but it doesn’t ruin the game and it is fun that they can be leveled up and upgraded. Certainly gives more diversity to the game.

But hey let’s not loose focus and get back to the main part of the game which undoubtedly is the music. There are 41 playable tracks here. With one of them recently getting added just the other day making me think they may add even more down the line. 😃 Will they start charging for them if they do? Not sure. I think probs not but I get excited by the prospect of them adding more and more either way. Not to say the ones we got currently available right now are whack or anything because they are most certainly NOT.

In fact all my main faves made it on here already except for Mic Drop Remix. Which what the fudge guys please add it in soon ok. Lol anyways they do got Dope, Fire, Spine Breaker,Save Me, Butterfly, Tomorrow, to name only a few. So yeah that’s cool because now that your playing through them it adds like a a whole new layer to all these familiar tunes and even gives them more repeat value. Like how can you miss out on the opportunity to perfect score your fave song? Plus I’m finding I’m gaining newfound appreciation for some of their lesser known hits that are playable on here and that’s a good thing.

All in all I think this is a must pick up if you already like BTS. If you don’t know them, this is still a good game to play on the go. It offers a decent catalog of songs and they’re not the full versions. Meaning it’s convenient to play one or two when you’re bored waiting in line or something along those lines. It does require an online connection tho but luckily it doesn’t waste too much data. And also this could serve to be like a fun intro into the band for newbies so there’s that too. Because who knows you might listen to some tracks and then wanna search them out later.

In short, get this game. My only wish going forward is that they can add a chat box or a friending system because I’d like to compare scores easier with friends of mine who are ARMYs too. Not sure if we can get that with an update, if not then please consider adding it in a sequel ok devs. 😉

I give it a 4.5/5 Let me know if you plan on or already have checked it out.

P.S. Watch this video I stumbled on by Jeanne Jovee. It’s of her wrecking Dope on Hard Mode. I aspire to get to that level at some point. Maybe in a few years if I’m lucky. 😆 But I kid of course. I plan to get there in upcoming weeks. 🙂

  2. I lose interest in phone games after a couple of days but I’ve been playing this a lot? Mainly because it’s hard to master and the songs are nice but the best thing is this one isn’t out to eat my phone memory. 😀
