Woah woah woah. Hold on a second what was THIS? Turned out totally unexpected..I found myself looking for new jams to listen to other day. A.K.A the usual. When all of a sudden I came across this MV titled Teen Swag.
Based of the title I could only imagine just as I’m sure you would that it was gonna be something rap related. So with it likely being right up my wheelhouse of course I had to give it a good ol try and I did. Didn’t expect much going in but damn let me tell you, I was so very very surprised by the kind of fire this girl was able to spit out for someone her age. More so later when I learned not only that she was an actual teen, which duh it’s in the the title, but more specifically that she was only 16! Most impressive!!
Given that and the fact that she was as good as she was she scared the bejesus out of me. Take a listen yourself and tell me she doesn’t already have an aura of superstar about her. You probably can’t can you? Honestly to me she already sounds better than half of the contestants I’ve seen on Unpretty Rapstar if you want me to be real. I now be thinking we are gonna be needing to keep an eye out for her because I wouldn’t be surprised if she did become somebody huge in the Khip-hop industry at some point down the line.
Like she already has a good flow down and from what I saw in the MV she’s easily got the camera presence to match. Confidence is definitely NOT something she is lacking in. I also loved the carefree gives no f*cks attitude she had in this. It’s something common in the genre I know, but I like how she keeps it low-key to the point of almost being deadpan. It’s an interesting stylistic choice because that shows that sometimes less can be more. It’s also risky though because going in that direction you can run the risk of coming off bland although luckily she doesn’t here. She manages to still have a charisma about her.
But anywho at this point we’re probs good but right about now you might be wanting to ask me why I chose the title I did for this post, if you haven’t asked that already. Well let me tell you. 🙂 It’s because after this MV I went ahead and looked for her mixtape that this track had been from. And yup it was called Sandy Got The Beach. I woulda liked to have added “review” afterwards too it but sadly I cannot review this officially. Because I have no idea what any of the lyrics mean and I can’t find translations anywhere. ANYWHERE lol 😛 Oh well…
On the bright side though I think I can at least make this post more of a recommendation one to let you know that Sandy is indeed out there ready to kill it in this rap game. And that not only was Teen Swag an awesome fire track, but really all of them are. All 5 tracks in total . Guaranteed. So if you are in the mood to try something less polished and more underground than the usual idol stuff I recommend please do try this. It’s a short mixtape with a minimalist old school kind of feel that won’t consume a lot of your time.
If I had any complaints with it though there would only be one and it’s that the beats are kinda simple and not crazy enough for my tasters. However, at least they do help give each track it’s own tone and that’s important so there’s that. Other than that again I think you’ll like the passive aggressiveness of Teen Swag but if for some odd reason you don’t the other tracks are a bit more lively and intense in comparison. My personal favorite for you to check out for sure after Teen Swag is My First Trap. It sounded threatening but at the same time had this “put you in a trance” type of beat. Made for the most interesting combination out of the bunch. I think most people will like that one.
There you have it. Let me know if this was or wasn’t your style. I know for myself I’m gonna go back to track down what other projects she has been involved in. ^____^ Like always thanks for reading and I’ll see you peeps again soon.
