Just a quick heads up on something cool I found today. 🙂
While cruising through r/kpop I couldn’t help but notice this one post that was beginning to trend. From the looks of it someone had started a Discord Server made precisely with older kpop fans in mind. It was my first time seeing anything quite like it on that subreddit before so I was intrigued. It was started by reddit user u/sailorscovt. Now as y’all know one of the things I love most about kpop is the fandom engagement, all sorts of it, so obviously a move like this was very attention grabbing.
For those not in the know, basically Discord is a website that allows voice and text chat between friends and strangers alike. Also there’s an app for your phone that’s available too. It’s one of those that’s pretty straight forward to use. You set up an account just like every other website out there nowadays does it, and most important it’s free. I first heard about the service through Twitch actually. I think it was originally aimed at gamers but streamers in general started using it to chat with followers, subscribers, and mods since it was so easy to use. Since it has kind of blowed up to the point it’s now expanded to the kpop community too apparently. 😀
Thought it’d be nice to re-share on here since I know quite a few of you don’t check reddit too often if at all. Furthermore, I know I’ve manged to attract some older Kpop fans myself and they may find this quite useful.
Now I went on there not long ago to check it out myself, and from what I’ve gathered thus far the people on there seem pretty chill. Much more in comparison than regular stan_twt has become. Much more in general. I guess one of the perks of it being aimed at older peeps is that they tend to be at least a little bit more wiser and can take an opposing opinion much easier. If you’ve been looking for a place that won’t easily become a battleground for fanwars this may be something worth looking into.
It’s aimed at people who are 25+ but I don’t think there is anybody really regulating it so who knows what’ll happen after awhile. All I can say is that for now it’s looking pretty good. There aren’t too many members( I only saw around 30 online at a given time)so it feels very home-y and personable. A good chance to make friends with like minded people.
Well that’s it for today. Hope this was interesting for at least some of y’all. 🙂
