Jin’s Intro is Finally Here: Epiphany Review

The comeback trailer for BTS‘s upcoming special album is finally out and it’s everything you’d want and more.

Having watched it myself already all I can say is daaaaaaaaang….

I’ve been left in a state of both amazement and disbelief. As y’all know I’ve been waiting for Jin’s intro to drop since the freaking longest and now it finally has, and it’s a sad rock ballad! Did you hear me An Emo ROCK BALLAD. Could his label have chosen a genre any more fitting to his sensibilities? I certainly don’t think so.

I saw earlier that some were surprised by this sudden direction but maybe they shouldn’t have been, because if you ask me, THIS was the perfect direction to go in. I’ve always thought one of this guy’s strong suits was how he’s able to emote and bring feeling to a song, and a ballad-y song like this only highlights that twice more. To me Epiphany is a singer’s song and I’m quite impressed by how well Jin executed it.

Furthermore I really liked how it’s lyrics beautifully carry on the “Love Yourself” theme. Every time it gets to the, “I’m The One I Should Love in This World” part for example, it packs a mean punch.  It really is one of those songs that takes your breath away. I can only begin to imagine how even better something like this would be live. It just sounds like the type of song that would slay at concerts doesn’t it? and I can already imagine the inevitable acoustic version too. 😮 How sick would it be to see Jin rocking this out with his guitar in the upcoming tour…

But I think what gets me even more with this release is that it seems bighit has gained a lot of confidence in Jin’s vocals. I say this cuz I was surprised by how bare bones the MV itself was. I mean we all know the sorts of cash BTS‘s label is raking in these days. They have become world wide famous after all. So I’m pleasantly surprised they instead decided to scale things back with this trailer considering how they have more eyes on them now than ever. Many other companies would have panicked to keep the momentum going by throwing everything including the kitchen sink.

However don’t get me wrong because I am aware that us ARMYs did get some things. I did catch some of those EasterEggs/Callbacks to BTS‘s on going story(gonna need to check online later for some theories on that btw). I just mean that there wasn’t a lot of action or fancy colors to distract viewers this time around. It really relied on Jin vocals first and foremost and that’s fantastic. He has really worked his ass off to improve and it makes me happy to see it getting recognized.

So overall as you can see I was super satisfied with this release. Now share with me how YOU felt down in the comments below. Now excuse me as I go listen to this again.

P.S. raise your hands if this last shot gave you chills.

    • I’m telling you, Jin has really been grabbing my attention recently. Between his parts in the Face Yourself album, his cover of Autum outside the post office, and this..my boy has been on a huge roll lately.

  2. I’m genuinely surprised that people are surprised that Jin was given the sad, emo kind of song. I have been a BTS fan for 3 months and even I can tell that manner of song is perfect for Jin.
Also, judging from all past videos I’ve watched, Jin’s vocals have become very strong. I’m glad that BigHit entrusted him to do this.

    • I think people were expecting something a little lighter or different because there’s been talk that BTS was gonna be going more retro with this special album. But I agree these kinds of songs have always been his best, so it makes sense he released this. I also think that the name “Answer” makes people assume the new tracks will be happier ones in comparison to the more angsty one of the last one.

      • Why would they think that? Majority of their lyrics punch me in my gut. Why would they go all happy go lucky now?
Anyway, shout out to Jin for giving us vocals and visuals in that video. I have never looked at Jin like that until this video.

  3. Yep, an absolutely amazing outing from Jin! I expected a pretty powerful ballad and that’s what we got. Loved the dialed down video that showcased his vocals and the hard hitting lyrics. It’s a song where the lyrics combined with his vocals will hit you with their simple yet profound meaning alone. But then for those of us who are familiar with the overall story of the Love Yourself series it just knocks you over. I can’t even imagine what we have to look forward to on the album!

    • Im so looking forward to this album and all of its upcoming surprises too! Its crazy to think but the momentum is still getting bigger and is showing no signs of winding down just yet. It was just yesterday I saw Burger King tweeting about this comeback trailer. We are living in the weirdest timeline arent we? Haha

  7. Yes the last shot really gave me chills. I liked how they decided to go with the strength of Jins vocals and that’s the appreciation the mam deserves for his hard work! And I loved loved the song. A wonderful and surprising genre. I have a running series on my blog which I started as part of my blog’s anniversary on the Bangtan Universe. Do check it out if you can. It’s on the theories and all the connected music videos and all. 😀

  8. I love this song! I really appreciate how they scaled things back to focus on Jin and the song itself. BigHit really is showing BTS gained fame from the talent, not just the label itself. That last shot is seriously one of my favorite stills from a MV. It’s now my Twitter banner lol.
