BTS was on Ellen @_@

Finally the boys made their long awaited appearance on The Ellen Show. Woo-hoo!ย ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ”Š๐ŸŽถ

I woulda talked about it minutes after it aired but if y’all are familiar with the Ellen Show, you know she often times puts extra things on YouTube a day or two after. Which is exactly what happened here with BTS. Thus making me super glad I waited because now I can talk about EVERYTHING in a singular post. And to make sure my thoughts come out as on point as humanly possible, I’m gonna go and talk about everything based on the order clips were uploaded onto her YouTube page. Sound good?

Alrighty brace yourselves because you’re about to listen to the ramblings of a total fanboy ๐Ÿ˜› :

Ok so first thing first, I gotta mention the little teaser that was uploaded. I gots to because it was such a good promo wasn’t it? It was there to hype us up and boy did it. With that being said the biggest surprise foremost was its mere existence to begin with. Cuz maybe I ‘m remembering it wrong but I don’t really remember this show doing something like it before, to this level at least, for any other artist. Could be they did and I’m simply having a hard time remembering, but either way it was a real freakin’ cool thing for them to do.

I liked it because it pretty much gave you the skinny of what you needz to know about BTS. It mentioned the crazy amount of devoted followers they have, how they topped charts all over the world, how Time Magazine put them as one of the most influential people, and gave a little shout out to one of their other recent songs, Not Today. Oh and then we can’t forget the countdown they threw in there too. Seriously it all made it feel like this was a huge deal…which it IS!

Then getting us right a long is the next clip released on her page, the Mic Drop Remix Performance. This was a BIG standout on it’s own mainly since it’s the first time it has ever been performed on American TV or any TV for that matter I believe. Talk about an amazing and far reaching show to debut it on. ๐Ÿ™‚ It was dope because it will shut down those haters who were previously putting this group down for supposedly lip Syncing at the AMAs.

Just one listen to this to this and you’ll see they have no need to do that sorta thing. It will also prove they don’t need a big stage to put a larger than life performance either. I mean look at the smaller stage they have here and see for yourselves how they still rocked the heck out of it through the charismatic performance they put on. Will be interesting to see if they do in fact also perform this track on the MAMA stage coming up too. Potential to be a show stealer there.

P.S. Did I hear that right, “biggest K-pop boy band in the world.” …Have sweeter words ever been spoken? ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜Š

As for the interview itself, it was alright. Better than most but still not quite as good as the Zack Sang interview in my eyes. Honestly it was kinda more of a RM interview than a BTS interview. Although at least all the members got to introduce themselves even if you couldn’t really hear them on account of the audience being so loud. ๐Ÿ˜… I do think we can all agree though that in the endย V stole the interview with his “Not Not, No..No!” moment.

Anyways here is the take away from the whole thing.

  • We got all the member’s stage names(RM, V, J-hope, Suga, Jungkook, Jin, Jimin)
  • It gave peeps the insight that RM is the leader and he self learned English thanks to the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
  • How BTS’s full nameย translates into Bulletproof Boy Scouts which then ARMY is an extension of (which if you are an ARMY you know he skirted around the actual meaning *coughs* Adorably Respectful MC for Youths, yes let’s bury that and never bring it up again. lol)
  • V really liked whatever was in his mug ๐Ÿ˜›
  • Korean or Not their songs translate well as seen by the response of fans internationally
  • Jin continues to be world wide handsome

There you have it, everything that you should have learned from this interview. ๐Ÿ˜€

Which then leads us to their second performance. Oh yeah there is more. They did a live version of DNA too and I think this was the best of the two if only because you can hear the fanchants better. It’s always weird to not hear them when a Kpop song is played because they are such a huge staple of Kpop. Not sure if they muted them a bit or what on tv for Mic Drop because I couldn’t hear them much during it.ย Anywho they were both lit in the end.

Going forward it will be interesting to see how many comments on BTS‘s videos will start saying they came from ELLEN. ๐Ÿ˜€

Then lastly that brings us to the two fun extras.

The first extra is them answering some fan questions. And it was in this that I thought Jungkook finally shined in these American promotions. A good departure from him standing in the back during most of the interviews previously. I say this since I was completely taken aback by him taking the main focus when addressing the question about having been to Disney and talking about Buzz Lightyear. ๐Ÿ˜ฎย I knew he had said he would learn English but I didn’t expect him to randomly bust out with such good pronunciation out of nowhere. Good on him for improving. I know I would fail miserably trying to say any sentence that long in Korean. ๐Ÿ˜›

Then the last sweet extra was them surprising the fans. I expected funny going into this but it was even funnier than that. The highlight I think had to beย Jin getting surprised when one of the group of fans came towards them. I’m truly surprised more didn’t try to do the same tho. It was funny since he was gonna pretend to be surprised by them but then instead, he was the legit one surprised. haha.

My only wish is that they woulda had more time to get into it with the fans but I know they didn’t have to much free time. Either way it was cool seeing everyone’s shocked faces over and over. How do you think you would have reacted?

My only major criticism in all this was no UNICEF/Love Myself Campaign Talk.ย  Would have been nice to give it some exposure on such a big platform. Like if only she could have brought up how a percentage of their newest album sales are donated to fund programs for troubled youths, but nope we got none of that. I guess for now we will have to spread it ourselves so remember to include that stuff in your tweets. However, I’m at least glad there wasย some mention about the importance of their lyrics. It’s progress made.

Maybe next year we can get even better interviews that go deeper now that the States have officially been introduced to them. ๐Ÿ™‚ and yeah, there you have it. All of my thoughts on their first ever Ellen Show appearance. Did you agree or disagree? Did I leave out anything that you liked? Share with me down below like always. I’ll see you peeps next time. ^_____^

  1. I really hope that by now, people have realised that BTS does not lip sync. It was so evident in this one. The only thing i was’nt so enthusiastic aboyt was the interview becayse like you said, it was an RM interview not a BTS interview. But other than i loved everythinh! From the performances to the extra bits and everything. Especially Jin getting surprised for real. Haha. That was priceless. I think all of them worked really hard on English. Throughout the whole US tour this time, I saw a good amount of effort from J-Hope, Jin and V who initiates and communicates well in English. When Jungkook started off about Disneyland it was really sirprising. Jungkook’s English in the MIC drop remix was spot on too actually.
I think the part I liked the most was V drinking coffee or water or whatever and his “Not”. It was like he wanted to give like a strong answer to that. Expecting to see many trolls and memes on that one. Anyway it was a really nice post! Sorry for all the blabber on your comments section. ๐Ÿ˜›

    • lol Jin getting surprised really is priceless. ๐Ÿ˜› And I agree each of the members have really improved resulting in many good moment. My fave for each is V telling everybody how unbelievable it is to be here, Jin telling Mario Lopez they’re friends because they both like sleep, J-hope signing the ABC’s and talking about his mixtape, and Jimin telling James Corden he isn’t afraid and doing his USHER bit. Yup everybody has had little moments on this round of promotions in America. I’m sure I could name more. Oh and don’t worry about being a babbler because apparently from this reply I am too! ๐Ÿ˜›

      • I think its things like this that makes BTS so popular to fans. Its hard to not -like them. I like the fact they they are okay even doing goofy things or falling down or anything. Off stage and on stage they are the same people. Okay maybe on stage they are really cool while performinh. All this time I have never really “fangirl” for any artist. But i am such a fangirl when it comes to BTS. and this holds true for so much more ARMY as well haha

  2. I don’t think there is a chant for Mic Drop Remix yet. I haven’t heard it anywhere. That’s probably why there wasn’t one during the performance.

I really liked this. Thanks for posting. I didn’t get to watch all these… so YAY! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I know there is one for the original. I had expected the fans to do that one. Because you can kinda hear them doing it but it’s kinda soft. I recommend you watch the fancams for the Jimmy Kimmel performance to see what I was expecting ๐Ÿ™‚

Other than that I had a blast with the performances. Also did you know their mini Album is back on Billboard 200?

      • Hiiiii!!!! Good idea. I’ll check out the Jimmy Kimmel performance. I didn’t even know it was on youtube. Have you seen the Vlive videos that they make sometimes? i really liked the one with RM recently. He started dancing to EW&F “september”. it was soooo cute!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I agree, the interview could have been better but it was still very entertaining. The boys seemed comfortable. My favorite part is definitely V’s ‘Not Not, No No’ moment. Jungkook speaking English by himself surprised me too but I’ve noticed that his pronunciation is good from his cover songs in English.

    • It’s surprising to see all the progress the group has made in terms of English. They have more and more phrases they are comfortable with using now. But overall I think the most surprising thing is…there are now two BTS performances on Ellen’s YouTube channel. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ That’s cray cray to think. O_O

  4. Man,I had not realised how big this band really is until I saw the teaser trailer from this post. Those are truly some absolutely amazing statistics. Very cool, and so glad for you. Even though I don’t follow music as much as I used to in the past, it’s very awesome to see a post that is so enthusiastically written ๐Ÿ˜Š

  5. I watched the part where Jin gets surprised so many times. He’s always getting scared like that. :v
I did wish Ellen has brought up the UNICEF campaign but at least she contributed to the sales which in turn helped the campaign, so it’s okay I guess? It looks like they didn’t have enough time for the actual interview.
And Yoongi got to answer at least. He has been so quiet the whole tour. He understands English but is so shy about speaking in it.
The Mic drop performance…whoo. Anyone that said they lip sync have no where to run now.

  6. I got scared for Jin when that fan rushed forward! LOL! That was classic. I also liked it when they appeared and started with the BTS chant. They looked like they were having fun coming up with new ideas for whenever the door opened. What a good idea that was for Ellen’s show!

I thought V was adorable with his response – and quick to respond, too! Which was probably why he hadn’t really thought out his answer and it was more a knee-jerk reaction.

I am guessing their short air-time is due to the fact they were a last minute add-on. I’m sure they had to bump some one else off to get BTS on during their week in LA. My hope is they get invited back again as a main guest. Something to look forward to!

I wished Ellen brought up the UNICEF campaign as well but am happy she touched upon Mental Health issues in their lyrics, especially knowing at least a few of them have dealt (or is still dealing) with mental health issues either directly or indirectly. Namjoon talked about his depression before. Taehyung’s long time friend committed suicide just a couple of months ago. Jimin practically almost developed an eating disorder. And I heard but am not sure that Suga has also dealt with depression (and attempted suicide when he was a trainee?) It’s a growing issue among youth and governments across the world are not addressing it as fast as the epidemic is spreading. I think here in N. America we have a lot of work to do on that front but we’re talking more about it at least. In Asia, they have less support and have a longer road in breaking down stigma in this subject matter.

As for lip syncing, I don’t even know why people care. Honestly, I have seen enough of BTS’ live performances online and I can see they do not lip sync most of the time (if not at all). But I assumed they have to during the really intense choreo parts? I guess I just figured that was the norm? How can anyone, even pros, sing even so-so while doing such high energy moves? So I guess what I’m saying is I always figured they do not lip sync unless it’s absolutely necessary and if that’s true, I don’t care. I know they have amazing voices due to all the acoustic performances and on the stop singing they do during interviews, etc. There is nothing they need to prove to me (and the rest all the true fans here) but I’m glad that they proved to others with that sic live MIC Drop Remix performance! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. It was definitely a fun appearance with all kinds of nice extras to enjoy. So many memorable moments ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m really looking forward to the James Corden one since it really looks like him and the boys had a good time. And thankfully, they finally announced it airing!
